What is Nu-Pure packaging actually made from?
At Nu-Pure, weโre all about healthy hydration. Our water isย sourced from specially selected pristine Australian springs, so itโsย all natural. We want our water to stay pure, so we take great careย in bottling it up in the right way.
We believe in being as transparent as, well, waterโฆ aboutย the Nu-Pure production process, so weโre breaking downย exactly whatโs in out packaging and why.
Bottled Up
Our bottle is made from 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate,ย commonly known as rPET. All plastics arenโt made equal and weย chose PET for a reason. The big advantage of PET is that it is 100% recyclable. If you pop it in the recycle bin, it can have another lifeย and be recycled again and again.ย
This is where our bottle comesย from!
We also like PET because itโs safer, both for theย environmentย and for you. Over its lifetime, PET has a lower carbon footprintย than both glass and aluminium and poses no risk of leaching orย contamination into our groundwater. Itโs also BPA free. In fact, itย never contained BPA in the first place โ so that makes it easy.
Put a lid on it
Our bottle caps ensure the water stays sealed and pure, so weโve been mindful ofย the materials we use. Our caps are made of whatโs called high-density polyethyleneย or HDPE. We use this kind of plastic because itโs really strong โ i.e. it wonโt breakย open and flood your bag.
The good news is, these caps are recyclable. They can be separated from bottles in the recycling plants. This recycled resin can be turned into a plastic materialย thatโs used for furniture, building products, rubbish bins, agricultural film and evenย playground equipment.
Thatโs right, the slide at the park could be made from recycled Nu-Pure bottle caps!
What about labels?
Our Nu-Pure labels are made from two types of polypropylene, theyโre called OPPย and BOPP. The plastics world loves an acronym. The recycled labels can be turnedย into a plastic material that has similar uses to the bottle caps. To recycle them, justย pop the whole bottle into your recycling bin. During the washing and recyclingย process, labels can be removed and processed.
You might be wondering about the shrink wrap that transports our bottles. Itโs made of low-density polyethylene or LDPE. We use it because itโs light, really strong and flexible, so it gets your bottles to the store safely. It is also recyclable. Recovered wrap has a range of uses, including manufacturing furniture, construction products and agricultural films.
At Nu-Pure, weโre all about balance. We want toย package our product in a sustainable way, whileย ensuring thereโs no compromise on the quality ofย water thatโs delivered to you. This is how we strike thatย balance now, but weโre always striving to stay ahead ofย the curve when it comes to environmental packagingย solutions.
